Objective
To make widely available the results of the WGs over the years dealing with different aspects of identification, classification and analysis of dispersed organic matter
Development
The WG was born as consequence of the review performed by Werner Hiltmann on the results of the Isolation of Organic matter WG over the years and presented at the Budapest Meeting (2004). The review was accompanied by the scan of all the documents revised. It was thought that these documents should be widely available because they contain a large amount of relevant data. The first glance confirmed the interest of the data and that they might need some elaboration before they are put in a friendly format either for publication in a journal or presentation in the Web. The Conveners who conducted the exercises run in Commission II over the years will be contacted to prepare the final documents for dissemination.
The documents available that can be found upon login in the section restricted to membership of the ICCP web site are listed below.

Activities and modification of Objectives over the years
• 2006. The objective during the first year activity was maintained “Put in value and make available the results in Comm.II along the years”.
The activities initiated with the report prepared by Neely Bostick in 1981 on the analysis of MOD20-24. All samples were analysed for vitrinite reflectance having a large number of participants. The results were compiled in electronic format and the statistics currently applied in the ICCP accreditation programs to assess precision and bias were used.
Both the original report and the results of the review are available in the restricted area of the ICCP webpage upon login.
• 2007. The objective focused on checking if the results on the effect of isolation procedure on petrographic parameters and composition were conclusive enough or further efforts were required.
The reports from 1986 to 1995 were reviewed. Both aspects dealing with organic matter composition (maceral analysis) and vitrinite reflectance were taken into account. The results pointed towards the convenience of continuing with the study of the effect that procedures to concentrate the organic matter cause on petrographic parameters. The Concentration of Organic matter WG was established with this purpose which is convened by J.G. Mendonça Filho.
Both the original reports and the results of the review are available in the restricted area of the ICCP webpage upon login.
• 2008. The objective focused on the aspects dealing with the degree of agreement in the identification of components. The data to assess this objective are insufficient and difficult to treat mathematically due to the lack of a standardised nomenclature for source rocks and the inherent difficulties of the analysis. A lot of work is required in identification of Components and activities are currently conducted within the . Identification of Organic Matter WG convened by J. Kus
Both the original reports and the results of the review are available in the restricted area of the ICCP webpage upon login.
• 2009. The objective focused on checking precision and bias of vitrinite reflectance measurements in past ICCP Round Robin exercises using the criteria currently used by ICCP accreditation programs. This review (Borrego 2009; ICCP News 48) intended to serve for the preparation of a standard procedure for vitrinite measurement in dispersed organic matter. Activity which is being carried out in the Identification of primary vitrinite in DOM WG convened by P. Hackley.
Both the original reports and the results of the review are available in the restricted area of the ICCP webpage upon login.
• 2010. The activities focused on adapting the reports to a format in which the work of participants and conveners is recognised and acknowledged and remove the direct link between participant and name to adapt the reports on some way to the current procedures in the ICCP.
The documents generated in the past in Commission II on identification of components and vitrinite reflectance measurement in DOM are now available in the restricted part of the ICCP webpage upon login.
